The Need
We live in a land of plenty. Despite recent economic events, most of us still have a place to live, a car to drive, and food to eat. And that’s just the beginning. We’ve got computers and cell phones, back yards and barbecues, closets near capacity, and store after store ready to sell us more. That changes our perspective.
Surrounded by abundance, housing becomes a matter of status, not shelter. Clothes are deemed unusable because of style, not wear. Water flows freely in long hot showers or summer slip-n-slides. Food becomes entertainment, consumed as a backdrop to social gatherings.
But there are many places in our world where morsels of food and sips of water are a matter of life or death. 350 - 400 million children are hungry. About 1 in 7 worldwide - 854 million people - do not have food to sustain them. Every day, hunger claims the lives of approximately 25,000 people. That's over 9 million people per year!
The Food
Feed My Starving Children (www.fmsc.org), a non-profit Christian relief organization, has worked with scientists to develop a meal that will both save lives and improve long-term health, growth and physical well-being. It’s a food mixture that consists of:
1. Rice, the most widely accepted grain around the world.
2. Extruded soy nuggets, providing maximum protein at lowest cost.
3. Vitamins, minerals and a nutritionally-enriched vegetarian chicken flavoring
4. Dehydrated vegetables for flavor and nutrition
At MobilePack events all over the United States, voluteers package this mixture in small pouches—each of which provides six highly nutritious meals.

The Event
On April 9th and 10th, South Ridge Community Church, in partnership with Feed My Starving Children, will mobilize 500 volunteers in 6 shifts (two hours each) to pack 100,000 meals [in vacuum-sealed pouches] for starving people. Each year, Feed My Starving Children partners with local communities to pack between 10 and 20 million meals for people in impoverished countries. 25% – 30% of the meals packed through Feed My Starving Children are distributed to the people of Haiti through 200 mission partners. This is an opportunity for you to join with others in bringing relief from starvation and hope to hopeless lives.
During your two hour shift you will:
- Receive education about the hunger needs of our world
- Receive training for the packing process
- Work with a team to put dry meal ingredients in bags then seal, label, and pack them
- Celebrate the thousands of meals you helped pack
How many times have you seen brokenness and atrocities in the news and thought to yourself, “If only something could be done”. Something can be done! Will you share your abundance with those who have so little? Would you take two hours of your life to help save the lives of many?

Things You Need to Know

Donations
South Ridge Community Church assumes the cost of each packed meal, which is .17 cents (100,000 meals = $17,000). This means that each of our 500 volunteers packs approximately $34.00 worth of food. If you are able to give a financial gift to offset this expense, it would be a help. Here are three convenient ways to make a donation:
1. Make a donation of any amount by clicking here.
2. To make a contribution by mail, send a check to:
